Julace West – Burlesque and traditional hat manufactory

„There are two things a man will never understand: the magic of creation and the hat of a woman.” (Coco Chanel).

This maxim seems to make life and work just a little more creative in the North of Germany. The fact that creative hairdressing does not only belong to horse riding sports or to the English aristocracy is widely spread today. Famous fashion chain stores by now enrich their accessory collections by sweet feather hats with lots of bling bling. But this off-the-shelf products can’t really be compared with the magical hat creations, or rather hat dreams, from Julace West. Especially within the Burlesque scene women don’t like to wear just something on their head when leaving the house, always being afraid of being recognized as a Hennes&Mauritz customer. Since 2009 all fashion fans can have their hats, fascinators, headpieces, pill boxes and charming head dressing individually designed for their own liking.

Every headdress should be just as unique as its owner. For that, it makes sense to get in touch with the designer to coordinate wishes and personal details – or even make an appointment for a hat party. Probably everybody knows this kind of home shopping that seems to be a cute alternative to stupid TV shopping channels. In a laidback atmosphere among friends the whole collection of Julace West can be tried on. Personal advisory service is included. In Northern Germany (Kiel, Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover) hat parties are possible during the whole year. For all other regions, prior consultation is necessary.

The unique hat masterpieces from Julace West are made of felt, sinamay (a certain kind of textile cloth), palm tree fibers and hat straw and – depending on the occasion they are created for – sometimes contain decoration of feathers and details. During to my countless “Wies’n” visits (no, not those in Munich) I myself had the pleasure to get a unique and super cute dream of a hat in the traditional German “Trachten”-style and have to warn you: Julia Westphal’s passion for the hat is extremely contagious. 🙂 In November another showroom, which will present the broad spectrum of the Julace West hat manufactory, will be opened close to Hamburg. Hats off! I mean – on! 🙂
