From time to time this fashion column does not only show you burlesque fashion but also important representatives of it. At the last Amsterdam Burlesque Festival I saw a performer who is everything but ordinary. Her powerful costume and makeup staging was surprisingly exciting: The reason why I would like to present you some of her art work. Marnie Scarlet shows herself off in such a terrific way and as a designer for libidex UK, of course, latex is one of her favored materials. The one-eyed soldier, a bride corpse, a bloodthirsty nurse, a crazy clown – every detail of her costumes is perfectly composed. A brilliant mixture of really existing surrealism in latex, feather and color. Never before have I seen such fancy and eccentric costumes live.

During Amsterdam Burlesque Week there unfortunately were too few chances to extensively talk to Marnie Scarlet about burlesque, make-up, art, styling or costumes, but no later than London Burlesque Week, I will take the chance.. maybe even the night before the event. Of course my mind is already working on a worthy visualization for a truly dignified outfit, probably with the help of redcat7. Somehow, however, I’m afraid that wonderful Marnie Scarlet again will raise the bar the highest – literally: Those who look for something that lies way beyond (or above) the ordinary, a firework of surrealism composed within a grandiose burlesque show… those will truly find it in Marnie Scarlet.
