A burlesque fashion column needs to have a focus on performers and their places to be. In beautiful Hamburg there is a location that calls itself the home of the neo-burlesque movement and that has already helped many amazing women and some amazing gentleman getting onto the boards that mean the world. To me the “Queen Calavera” belongs to the milestones of entertainment at the Reeperbahn and is, next to Tivoli, Olivia’s Bars and the Rock’n’Roll bar 20 Flight Rock, the main reason for me to step into the nightlife of the Kiez. All of those who’d love to experience burlesque, culture and Rock’n’Roll can’t help but end up in one of those locations just mentioned. Queen Calavera will offer you the extraordinary taste of wonderful burlesque. A true milestone in pin-up photography is photographer Carlos Kella, who already made contemporary pin-up artwork come back to life with the famous Girls and Legendary US Cars photographs.
That both these unique elements would get together one day should have been expected. Now, it is about time and SWAY publishers present a calendar edition in October, including national and international burlesque stars, photographed in the light of the home of burlesque – Queen Calavera by Carlos Kella. This work shows Beatrix von Bourbon, Millie Dollar, Koko La Douce, Billie Rae, Leolilly, Honey Lulu, Marlene von Steenvag, La Viola Vixen, Cleo Viper, Scarlett Martini, Xarah von den Vielenregen, Roxy Diamond, Clea Cutthroat – and, one thing is sure: This unique piece of burlesque artwork will make the year of 2013 a little more wonderful. All of those who cannot wait can make a reservation and already sign up for a copy at SWAY Books, because no one really knows if there will be a second printing before the beginning of 2013 – because the first circulation will probably be taken in the blink of an eye. Carlos Kella.
